About
Daniel Jefferson Davis testified for the defense on Day 10 about Ross Ulbricht's peacefulness and reputation among their friends. Under questioning by Lindsay Lewis, he described Ulbricht as generous, kind, and peaceful, distinguishing his own assessment from the similar reputation Ulbricht held within their shared social circle.
Davis based that testimony on a friendship dating to middle school and high school, spanning approximately 17 or 18 years. He qualified the continuity of their contact: they had not been in touch much during college, and regular friendship resumed probably in 2010 or 2011.
On cross-examination, Serrin A. Turner tested the limits of that familiarity. Davis said Ulbricht had not told him about creating Silk Road, growing or selling illegal drugs, living under a false name, or ordering nine fake IDs. The court overruled two defense objections to the fake-ID questions and requested rephrasing after the first.
